About the ladie costume
The Volendam women costume has two diffentent variants: the Sunday dress and the weekday dress.
The Sunday dress consists of:
- kletje (black blouse)
- colored underskirt
- boezel (black apron)
- hul (lace cap)
The traditional dress worn on weekdays does not look very different from the Sunday dress. The daytime costume was worn with a white and blue striped apron, this is called ‘bontje’. In contrast to the daily dress, the Sunday costume has a ‘boezel’ this is a black apron with a floral top piece. This is also worn over the underskirt, just like the daywear. The Sunday dress is the dress that you will receive, the ‘bontje'(white and blue striped apron) can be ordered as an accessory.
